Mary-Lou Manizer AKA "The Luminizer" Review

Today I wanted to write a quick review about the Mary-Lou Manizer AKA "The Luminizer" highlighter/shimmer/eyeshadow by The Balm Cosmetics.

Packaging
For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Balm Cosmetics, they remind me a lot of Benefit Cosmetics in terms of their packaging. It plays up on the old-school retro look and Mary-Lou Manizer is no exception. On the inside includes a large built in mirror which is a bonus if you want to touch up on the go. The case is strong and sturdy and closes with a secure clasp so there is no need to worry that it will break open and get highlighter everywhere in your purse or makeup bag.

Overview
The Balm describes it as: "a seemingly innocent honey hued luminizer that catches everybody's eye. The highlighter, shadow, and shimmer diffuses light so your skin looks softer and younger while adding a subtle glow." I agree that it gives off a shimmery golden champage effect which works nicely as a brow and cheek highlight. I've also been using it on my eyes as an inner highlight or as an overall shadow for the lid. I found that it gives a beautiful sheen without too much glitter and is very pigmented. One swipe and my finger tips were opaque without looking overly powdery.

Final Verdict
Because of its multi-functionality, I give this product an A+. You can tell that it's a quality highlighter based on the highly pigmented formula and lasting staying power. A little goes a really long way, and for 8.5g of product, it will last you forever and pays for itself compared to other well known cheek and brow highlights out there. I also feel that this product would be universally flattering for many different skin types and offers a lot of versatility. You can find Mary-Lou Manizer at your local Shoppers Drug Mart or The Balm Cosmetics Website (https://www.thebalm.com/secure.htm) for $24 CAD.

The Beauty Confidant First Reveal and Review!

I can't express how excited I am to finally be starting my own beauty blog! Although I am new to the beauty blogging scene, I am no stranger to experimenting and wearing makeup and consider myself a bit of a makeup junkie. Through trial and error, I wish to share with you my thoughts about the products I've tested over the years and will break down the one's I love from the one's that I...um didn't really love. This is why I'd like to think of myself as your own friendly personal beauty confidant - someone who you can trust will share their honest opinion about different beauty products that you yourself may want to use.

Without further ado, let's get into my first review!
Today I'd like to talk about the Too Faced Natural Face Natural Radiance Palette. This product came out in mid-January and I haven't seen to many reviews on it just yet. I stumbled across this palette at my local Sephora when I was on the hunt for an all in one contouring kit. Luckily I decided to splurge on this as a birthday present for myself in March and haven't regretted buying it since.

Overview
It comes in a palette with six different products and includes:

-0.28 oz Bronzing Veil (powder with bronze with gold shimmer)
-0.1 oz Crème Blush (matte cream blush in a burnt apricot shade)
-0.11 oz Powder Blush (shimmery peachy pink powder)
-0.05 oz Concealer (fair to olive cream concealer)
-0.06 oz Luminizer (cream base with slight pink and silver shimmer)
-0.05 oz Brightener (ivory cream concealer)
-3 Instructional Application Cards

Packaging:
Like with many of the Too Faced products, the packaging is adorable and pays close attention to detail. The kit comes with a mirror inside and also includes a side compartment that contains three instruction cards. These instruction cards explain how to achieve three different looks, including: "Day Glow," "Classic Radiance," and "Supermodel Sculpt" The kit also closes using a magnetic seal which is very secure.

Thoughts:

The Good: I have to say, I was extremely impressed with the colours that were included in this kit and their ability to work seamlessly with each other to create a very natural "no-makeup" makeup look. It gives the skin a beautiful natural glow and doesn't appear fake or cakey. All of the products are high quality with excellent pigmentation and staying power. I found that each one of the products from the kit lasted for several hours and up to a full day if worn with a primer. If I had to choose a favourite from this kit, it would be the brightener. On my skin, I found it worked better as a concealer but I can also use it on my under-eyes. The bronzer, cream blush and powder blush were also a hit and worked perfectly with my cool complexion which has pink undertones (I'm an NC20 for reference).

The Bad: I'm not going to sugar coat it. I was very disappointed in the luminizer. It is a cream consistency and comes across as a beautiful pearlescent pink with silver shimmer. When swatched on the skin it was a completely different story. The glitter just looked too chunky and fake for daytime use. Coming from someone who is used to Benefit's High Beam this just didn't make the cut. Other than that, the concealer was the only other product I had fault with but that was because it was slightly too dark for me. However, I think it would work great with olive to medium skin tones and it has a very creamy and smooth consistency.I think that this is a great palette for fair to olive skinned ladies, but I am uncertain if it would work as well on darker skin tones. Hopefully Too Faced will come out with another version of this that will compliment medium to dark skin tones in the future.

Final Verdict:
Overall I would give this product two thumbs up! This is a wonderful contouring kit for beginners or for anyone who is looking to expand their collection. I absolutely love the bronzer, blushes, and brightener. I feel that this product really delivers and gave an effortless natural glowy look. Despite my dislike for the luminizer and my inability to wear the concealer, I would still consider this a "Stranded on a Desert Island" essential. I never go a day without using at least one thing from the kit and find that the colours are neutral enough to wear all year round. This product retails at Sephora for $39 U.S. and $48 CAD. Although this may seem a little pricey, this all in one kit is good value for money and completely met my expectations for a Too Faced product.
